Andrew Burmeister was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in Massachusetts. He studied photography and began taking pictures while at Rice University in Houston, pursuing degrees in architecture and philosophy. His work was exhibited in several group shows in Texas and he continued his photographic work after moving to New Mexico. While pursuing a career in architecture, his work brought him to Paris and then to Montreal, where he began to make contacts in the fashion industry. Meanwhile, his personal work was published in the second issue of V magazine.

In 2001, he returned to Paris for a year, devoting more time to advancing his work in photography. While there he worked with magazines including V, Dutch and Max. An editor at Dutch suggested that he shoot the presentation of the Menswear collections backstage. After returning to the US, he spent another year in New Mexico before eventually moving back to New York.

Andrew has continued to pursue his personal projects alongside his editorial and backstage work, most notably his long term series of Self Portraits, begun when he was a student. His work has appeared in magazines such as Neo2, Têtu, Blackbook, Doingbird and Details. He photographed the European Menswear collections over twelve years for magazines including V Man, 10, Arena Homme + and Hint.

His work has been shown extensively in the US and abroad, most recently at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in New York. It has been included in several photographic anthologies and is included in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.
